Standard Reunification Method
The Standard Reunification Method (SRM) is the sister protocol to the Standard Response Protocol (SRP). While the SRP protects kids during an event, the SRM is the highly structured logistical process used to safely return students to their parents after an evacuation or emergency.
If an unexpected event—like a severe weather threat, a prolonged power outage, or a gas leak—requires us to evacuate a school, we will move our students and staff to a safe, alternate location.
The organized, secure process of safely getting your child back to you is called Reunification. We use a national, step-by-step system developed by the I Love U Guys Foundation to ensure every single child is accounted for and released safely.
Because this is an emergency situation and not a normal school dismissal, the process takes time and follows a strict protocol. Here is exactly what you need to know and do.
Your 4 Steps During a Reunification
📱 1. Stay Tuned for Instructions
We will send out immediate text, email, and phone alerts. Do not drive to your child's school building. The alert will tell you the exact location of the Reunification Site (which may be a nearby church, community center, or another school) and the time you should arrive.
🆔 2. Bring a Valid Photo ID
We cannot release your child to you without a government-issued photo ID (like a driver's license or passport). This rule is strictly enforced to protect your child, even if school staff recognize you personally.
👥 3. Ensure Emergency Contacts are Up-to-Date
We will only release students to adults who are explicitly listed as parents, guardians, or emergency contacts in our school database. If you need a trusted neighbor or relative to pick up your child, they must be on that list, and they must bring their own photo ID.
📝 4. Complete the Check-In Card
When you arrive at the pickup site, staff will hand you a Reunification Card. You will fill this out at the Parent Check-In table. A staff member will then go retrieve your child from the student area and bring them directly to you.
Three Things Parents Should Avoid
To help us keep your children safe and get everyone home as quickly as possible, we ask that you cooperate with the following:

Do Not Call the School: Staff will be entirely focused on student safety and managing the evacuation. Calling the main office ties up phone lines that emergency responders may need.

Do Not Drive to the School Building: Rushing to the school can block emergency vehicles, ambulances, and buses that are trying to safely move your children to the pickup site.

Do Not Text or Call Your Child: We understand this is difficult, but we need students focused on their teachers' instructions. In some situations, a ringing or vibrating phone can also create a safety hazard or cause unnecessary panic in the room.
